Like many others, I am getting ready to transfer multiple accounts to a new home server. When taking a big step like a server transfer, there is quite a bit to take into consideration and plenty to do to prepare. I came up with this checklist to make sure everything has been thought through and to help keep things somewhat organized during the transfers. Since there are already posts about what will and won't transfer, I didn't get into that here. Hopefully this will be helpful.

1. Have you found a server that is a good fit for you? If you are on a "transfer from server", create some throwaway characters to test drive a variety of available servers. Attend an event and/or get to know some people ahead of time. Read the forums. Meet with your friends and guildmates to compare notes. Make sure you are fully comfortable with your decision.

2. Have you thoroughly read the FAQ?

3. Can you find your friends and guildmates after you and/or they transfer? Exhange IM information, forum handles, etc. ahead of time. Even if you are going to the same destination server, you or they may have a new name and be difficult to find. Friends lists will not transfer.

4. Do you have all the structures you are planning to take with you? Make sure they are all packed into your datapad. Count your lots and use /locatestructure to be sure.

5. Is your city moving? Make sure everyone has everything belonging to them from city hall. City halls cannot be packed up and will not transfer. Also be sure to pick up any municipal structures you wish to keep, such as banks, garages, gardens, city decorations, and cloning facilities.

6. Are your vendor items secure? Be sure to remove all items from vendor. Vendors, even if packed in your datapad, will NOT transfer. If you have a TCG vendor, they must be destroyed before you transfer. When you arrive on your new server, you can re-create the TCG vendor.

7. Do you know where your items are? There is nothing worse then trying to set up your new home or head out to meet new PVP opponents and not be able to find a vital item. Take the time to sort your items and place them in labled containers or backpacks, especially if you have vendors that you need to unload. Take screenshots of your inventory, datapad windows, bank safety deposit window, and structure maintenance terminal windows, factory contents, etc. so you can make sure nothing is missing.

8. Did you back up your macros? Some people have reported having issues with macro files after a transfer. Be sure to make a copy of your macro files.

9. Did you check your mailbox? Be sure to use /mailsave to copy your mailbox. It will be copied to your computer.

10. Do you know your settings and toolbar arrangement? You may need to reset your toolbar and/or your optional settings after transferring. Consider taking screenshots so you can quickly restore your familiar settings.

11. Do you alternate names picked out? Your character's name may already be taken on your new server. Come up with a list of options that are acceptable beforehand to save frustration.

12. Do you have an elder account with an unlocked slot? Make sure you know how to transfer all three of your characters.

From Valara:

Here is a quick rundown for anyone who is wondering about transferring an unlocked character.

Let's assume for the example that you have the following characters on Kettemoor:

* Luke [Unlocked Slot]
* Leia
* Han

You'd like to transfer all three characters from Kettemoor to Starsider, where you have two open character slots. Here is the process:

1) Transfer Kettemoor.Luke to Starsider.Luke (or whatever name is chosen as the Starsider character)

2) /occupyUnlockedSlot with Starsider.Luke (or whatever name is chosen as the Starsider character)

3) Transfer Kettemoor.Leia to Starsider

4) Transfer Kettemoor.Han to Starsider

13. Do you know how to deal with problems? Here is how to file a ticket to request assistance from a GM.

14. Is there anything you can't live without on your old server? Non-spinning holos will turn into spinners, tradable "Festive Gatherings" will become no trade. Chances are the spot you love for your house or city will be taken. If anything like this is going to kill your gameplay, remember you do not have to transfer. On the other hand, consider the effects of a potentially large group of people departing from your home server. Only you can decide what will allow you to get the most enjoyment from the game.
