STO Under New Ownership

Report: Star Trek Online To Undergo Changes Under New Ownership

Shacknews has a story on changes to Star Trek Online. According to them, Star Trek Online is being retooled as a casual friendly game under an alternative business model. The report indicates that the company has been acquired by a new player in the MMO market. The assumption is that they will release the game under a free-to-play, micro-transaction business model.

All of this comes on the heels of an SEC filing from Gravity, which claims a $9 million loss as a result of the sale of Perpetual Entertainment. That move was most likely a legal maneuver to wipe clean the original company's debts.

As a sign of life, Perpetual still appears to be hiring. They posted a notice for an Assistant Producer/Tester today on craigslist. What's more, they underline their new direction when they ask for a candidate who speaks that language "to interface with Korean game development partners".

Read more on Shacknews.

New Rumor from WarCry

Looks like STO might be as good as dead if this is true. Well atleast we still got SGW to look forward too.

That. Totally. Sucks.

I was really hoping it would survive the financial issues. I wanted to play the game they were describing in the forums. Ah well. It's Star Trek. Someone will jump on that license.

The Star Gate MMO... coming soon?

Age of Conan looks interesting too.

It's still just a rumor but given everything that's happened recently with the company it looks pretty grim.

I'm holding how for the Stargate MMO though, it seems to have a bit more solid progress than STO and some good backing from MGM. Just pray they don't sell-out to $OE. :)

SGW is WELL underway and VERY secure I've read a lot on it, the developer is finacially secure and they've gotten recently some VERY GOOD Devs who've worked on VG and other MMORPGs.

SAD about STO heh... =(
